XLII edition
Next June 1st, under the Patronage of the
President of the Republic, Amalfi will have the honour of
being host to the XLII Edition of the Ancient Maritime
Republics Regatta: a festive occasion to remember the
history of the people and the sea.
Recalling the historic presence of Amalfi, the oldest of
the Maritime Republics, in trade and cultural movement
towards Mediterranean Countries, this Manifestation will
offer the occasion of reafferming this little town's
incisive image, which is still present in the world with
all "its rightful patrimony and business
ingenuity".
The general programme, will include cultural initiatives
(conferences, exhibition etc.) and manifestations of
folklore that will include, amongst others, groups from
the "sister cities" of Genoa, Pisa and Venice.
The Pageant with over 300 participants of the four
Maritime Republics dressed in period costumes and the
exciting Regatta of the eight-oar galleons will bring
this rich programme of events to an end on the closing
day. In all of the previous editions in Amalfi, the
Regatta has been followed by numerous journalists and
special correspondents of the main newspapers and
magazines, while the RAI and other national and
international TV and radio stations have given full
coverage.
